Registration for AVAST! Home edition is free - there;s a 60 day trial period, and after that you have to register annually to continue the free protection. You can go to this page

http://www.avast.com/eng/home-registrati...

to register your AVAST! software and get a free activation code. Once you enter that code, you won't have to enter a new code until 2009.

I would actually just go here:

best free anti virus
you downloaded a trial version, in 60 days you either purchase it, or a registration key to keep it working. I am not a fan of freeware, I like a warranty and tech support backup, nothing in life is free, somewhere down the track you pay, Murphy's Law.
no you have to register "its free" and they will email you a code.

Heres the link: http://avast.com/eng/home-registration.p...
If it is the "Home Edition" you just need to register it for free and in 14 months you need to re-register again for free also.
It's a good free anti vuris, but after 60 days the trial will expire and you will have the program but it will either do less or render itsself useless
